‘HELP EVER HURT NEVER’.    ‘LOVE ALL, SERVE ALL’ - Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba or beloved ‘Swami’ as He is known the world over for his devotees, revealed: My life is my message. He demonstrated the same during his sojourn on earth.

His exemplary accomplishments include:

• Building the huge SSSIHMS ( Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences) popularly known as Super Specialty Hospital at Puttaparthy which is the ONLY hospital in the entire world to have Sevadals and not paid staffs functioning all trough the year. It is also the only private hospital which functions to WORLD standards in matters of hygiene, and infrastructure and yet does not have a single cash box placed anywhere for donation purpose. The hospital does heart surgeries FREE. World class doctors come there to do seva and it is to be seen to be believed. Moreover, this amazing hospital was built in a record break of 6 months as he so willed it.
• Drinking water project was a splendid one, supplying drinking water to all the villages. It was a massive project, for which the credit does not go to the government , as it was single handedly executed as his master-minded plan to serve the village with potent drinking water, thus making several lives so blissful. Villagers until then had to trod several miles to get water.
• He built innumerable schools and colleges of repute such that they not only imparted knowledge but brought out shining examples of humanity by their behavior. Such schools are run in his name the world over.
• Of late, there is also ‘Annadanam’/ free meal scheme on a daily basis and hygienic, FREE lunch is served as prasadam to all who come out from Sai Kulwanth hall after attending the morning bhajans. The place in short is like heaven on earth.

Every state in India sends their sevadal team comprising men and  mahilas for dedicatingly executing voluntary work here in various capacities and thus the SSSIHMS is run all 365 days with a smile and his Divine grace and abundant blessings.

Sri Sathya Sai’s words,“Hands that help are holier than lips that pray” cannot be more precise in the context here. He showed the world how to deliver your mission on earth by his exemplary role on earth.

NASA showed this miracle man emerging here.  In short, a small hamlet as Puttaparthy in Andhra Pradesh came to be revealed in the world map. 

Sai as an ‘Avatara Purusha’ guides and leads us to the right path whenever we go astray, as has been my personal experience. Sometimes He sends people on his behalf to do the needful.

Why are you here on earth?

We are all sent to Earth by our Divine Creator to gain experience, train ourselves and purify our soul to reach higher realms.

Spiritual Test awaits you

Life poses a spiritual test for each one of us. A spiritual test is a surprise test and they confront you when you least expect them. To be spiritually aware, one has necessarily to make decisions from the subconscious mind, for a physical mind would be the wrong muscle and you may land up not doing well or failing completely. When you fail in a test, it comes back to you but it is always harder. The lesson you need to learn will remain the same, but the test will come in a different format altogether. This is how a spiritual test is a surprise test. Until the lesson is fully learnt, similar problems will be cropping your way, again and yet again until you totally overcome the experience.

We are all born as instruments of God, but the choice to continue to work as His instrument is entirely ours. God has given every one of us a chance to do something wonderful on earth and that is our SPIRITUAL MISSION.

When you follow the guidance of the subconscious mind, change becomes all too natural and you land up changing gracefully step by step. You are thus able to handle your tests and training and are in a position to pay off your negative karma well, on account of your being able to use your subconscious mind.

On account of one’s Good karma one is bestowed with spiritual gifts and blessings. When you are changing gracefully, you are in fact doing your best to bring God's plan into effect.

What is your Mission on earth?

If you do not complete your spiritual mission on earth, no matter how much you have achieved in this world, your life will be considered a waste and your journey incomplete. Be aware of your true potential. 

Every human being born in the world has 3 Missions, as his deliverance whilst on Earth:

1.   To improve spiritually: No matter what religion you follow, by simply fulfilling your duties,you do not progress spiritually. You must reach out and help others. Understand that your soul will never yearn for recognition.

2.    To selflessly serve others: “Manav Seva - Madhav seva” means to serve mankind is to serve God. Put yourself last and be ready to serve others in whatever capacity you can anywhere and at any time…Seize opportunities to serve.  Do not expect anything in return for the seva {voluntary work} rendered. 

Just do it with ‘Namasmarana’( Chanting of God’s name) on your lips. You will be taken care of by the Divine, who knows what is best for you to spiritually move  up the ladder,  at a faster pace. Every day on earth is a day bestowed to    serve   others, use it   to your best advantage when you are hale and healthy. The clock is ticking away. You can serve any NGO you like, but wherever you render, be of active service and not   just namesake. “Paropakarartham Idam shareeram” means this body is given to you to be of use to   others selflessly.  We are all blessed to have gotten evolved as humans in the first place, and we must use this splendid opportunity to  escalate move further up to the  higher realms / next   stage of ASCENDED MASTERS and then to the Source.

3.   To use individual gifts and talents for the growth of others: Your third mission is to be able to get connected to your gift. A talent that you possess for example sing, cook, or dance, write, paint, act, sporting ability and so on. You could also be having a very special connection with old people or children or animals; you could be a marvellous cook, or you could have a green thumb or perhaps excel in carpentry or artistic pottery and the like. This gift is what you are good at and is earned lifetimes. Remember that very single human being on earth is gifted. God would never send His child to earth without His blessing.

Good and Bad karma

Just as one's negative actions earn bad karma and vice versa, this good karma comes too you in the form of a spiritual gift... a skill that will give you fulfillment and also enable you to help others as well. If you are naturally good at something, it means that your soul has acquired that gift over a period of lifetimes, but your physical mind is aware of it for the first time in this life. So, in fact, you are not discovering what your gift is, but you are re-discovering it. (Like in my case, i re-discovered that i had a gift as late as when i was in my forties , that of artistic pottery).

“Not a 1000 horses can bring you to Prasanthi Nilayam @ Puttaparthy unless I will it” stated Sai and this is very true for, in my family although all are devotees of Baba, I have been singled out to have the golden opportunity to serve here in various capacities in different departments. It has been a real learning experience and a great privilege.  I consider it my unique blessing, good fortune and gift to be a Seva dal there each year during the term allotted for Tamil Nadu.

How I discovered my gift

I was forbidden to play in mud when i was young and that was nagging me. Until one day, thanks to Swami's grace, a friend and I had the opportunity to see a young woman working on a bouquet out of clay at a Shopping Mall. It was amazing and i prayed i would be able to link through to the art through her.  She was deftly articulating her fingers and i was overjoyed to have had the chance to witness her. I left my visiting card with her hoping she would call, but many days passed and she didn’t. Until one day her brother decided to call me... The Divine had heard my prayers and He did the needful. It was a strenuous journey back and forth to where they lived, but i was not relenting. I was steadfast in my thinking and Sathya Sai Baba guided me such that today , if i am able to take sessions and assist in the VTC  ( Vocational Training Centre)  all credit goes to Him for making me endure those arduous trips and learn the art to help many others to eke out a living. I almost thought i would give up half way.... Until some told me that i was extremely lucky i had this talent and they envied me. I then understood that "Pottery as a therapy & an Art” was one of my spiritual gifts.

Purpose of gift

Most people use their gift to earn fame and name, which is not the ultimate purpose. You are expected to create something that can be a positive contribution to humanity. By all means, use the talent to reach the pinnacle of glory in your line of work, but it is essential that one do not restrict the gift for merely earthly purposes. It is very important to find your higher purpose.

Timing of Mission

Only when you are ready for it, your mission will be revealed to you, just as it has been to me. For, if you come to know of it too soon, it may make you proud and haughty. You must be ready to accept the responsibility of that mission and be able to handle it. Thanks to Swami's grace, I have recently been invited to train women residing in the slums into artistic pottery and paper bags making, so that they can be self-dependent with their meager salary instead of resorting to begging. I think it is the Divine’s way of ensuring that i progress step by step and i am ever grateful that i am only working as per my Creator’s plan.

I consider myself to be just a link or channel for God's work on Earth. Call the Divine by any name you like… be it Ganesha , Allah, Jesus, Kali Ma, Krishna, Rama, Sai Baba , all expect the same deliverance on Earth from you.

Can one lose one's spiritual gift?

There is a possibility of losing your spiritual gift, if you tread the wrong path, considering you are rejecting the opportunity to perform your mission. Every soul is born with a purpose but that will be revealed to you only when you have begun your spiritual journey.

Life singles you out for some special reason. Why me ? you ask 

On June 27, 2012, the clouds were rather overcast and i ventured out considering it was not too sunny.  On return, I was to board the fateful bus of 17 M from Broadway to reach home but somehow missed it by a few seconds. It was rather empty and I felt sad that I narrowly missed it.  I was unaware that it was not the bus to reach me home, considering the traffic were diverted in many places and the routes were differed due to the Metro Railway work in progress.  Having missed the bus I boarded another bus ‘18 K’ that came soon after and reached home safely.

No sooner than I reached home, my dad told me of the incident and I could hardly believe it… the TV news was pouring horrible pictures of the bus that I missed to board. It had run with failed brakes and rammed the parapet wall of the Anna flyover bridge, skidding down a ramp to the road 10 feet below.  The next day newspaper headline: BUS JUMPS BRIDGE, 38 HURT.

Sometimes life singles you out for some special treatment. You may be thinking ‘why me’? The answer is because the finger of fate is pointing at you and urging you to seize chances of self- improvement, polishing up your partnerships in the process. This is the answer I derived to my questioning. So, anything that happens, happens for the good. Not a blade of grass can move without the Divine's knowledge.

Your time starts now, don't fritter it. Make life more meaningful . Each one of us have been provided with all the resources to attain the Source.
